ROOM ACOUSTICS

Room acoustics focuses on controlling the natural acoustics of enclosed spaces, such as concert halls, auditoriums, theatres, recording studios and similar environments.
The main objective of room acoustics is to optimise the auditory experience of people inside these spaces in relation to the sound activity being broadcast.
The role of the acoustician is to assist the architect in defining the volume and shape of the room and in choosing the type of walls: absorbing, diffusing or reflecting.

Key aspects of room acoustics include :Reverberation: This is the time it takes for sound to fade after it has been emitted. Reverberation can influence the clarity and intelligibility of sound in a room.
Absorption: Acoustic absorbent materials such as perforated panels are used to reduce unwanted sound reflections and to adjust the reverberation in the room.
Diffusion: Sound diffusion is important to avoid unwanted reflections and create unwanted sound effects. Diffusing surfaces help to disperse sound in different directions.
Reflection: The reflection of sound can be used to promote the distribution of sound throughout the audience using reflector panels.
Sound balance: It is important to ensure that all listeners in a room receive a similar sound level and equivalent sound quality, whatever their position. A good room is a balanced room.
